Classic Lolita Fashion May Challenge The Mainstream Of Lolita Fashion Family

Lolita, the Japanese street fashion style that gives a modern spin to old-fashioned girlishness, is often divided into numerous subgenres. Among these styles is classic Lolita fashion which isn’t overwhelming cute and less reliant on frills and lace. There are cleaner cuts to classic Lolita fashion, and it is an elegant style but it still has a lot of Lolita elements like laces, detailed buttons and certain silhouettes of the dresses.

Unlike sweet Lolita often using bold use of pastels and gothic Lolita typically sticking with lots of black, classic Lolita is a lot more toned down and more wearable, if you don't want to stand out too much.

Four Main Lolita Style: Gothic, Sweet, Classic And Punk

There are many types of Lolita dress and even now some desingers have changed it into modern twist. However, whatever styles the Lolita dresses have and how they can change. Lolita clothing still keep its essential elements decorated with elegant lace, bows and ruffles. As far as a lolita clothing mainstream, it has four main style types including gothic lolita, sweet lolita, classic lolita and punk lolita. Each type of lolita style has its own characteristic.

Elegant Gothic Lolita

The Gothic Lolita is the most popular now and began in Japan in the late 1990s and now has gradually spread around the world including Asia, Europe and North America.

Actually, Gothic Lolita is a combination of the Gothic and Lolita fashion that many Japanese girls love, sometimes shortened to Gotholi(ゴスロリ, gosu rori?) or EGL. Although GothLoli is correct term, it is only applied to the specific Gothic branch but not all the Lolita fashion. EGL is an abbreviation of the term Elegant Gothic Lolita which was coined by Japanese musician Manna to describe his new label of Lolita clothing line.

The Gothic Lolita dresses are designed to make girls to look like a doll. It sometimes is characterized by darker color like black, dark blues, purples and pink with accents of white. However, the combination of black and white is the foundation upon which lolita style is based.  Now these gothic designs are not like what people think are dark and evil-looking clothing symboled death, terro and mystery. In fact, it is presenting a Victorian girl look instead of traditional Goth wardrobe.

Gothic Lolita love to accentuate that youthful and school girl look, so the lace, ribbons, trims and frills are always in full force. Gothic Lolita lovers like to wear boots and platform shoes to show off their youth.

In addition, another important aspect of your ensemble is that gothic Lolitas are commonly matched with accessories such as miniature top hats, lace headdresses, parasols and canes. These can make it seem more authentic.
